I’m in the dog house …

Bartlett, one of my cats, is pissed off with me.  Majorly so; and he’s giving me the cold shoulder.  I catch him giving me dirty looks BartlettBlogMay23sometimes, too.  Trust me, he’s very good at letting me know where I stand.  Which at this moment in time is very low on his top-ten list of favourites.

I didn’t do anything per se, I swear.

Thing is, when I worked full time he was used to not having me around all the time.  But in the six or so years I’ve been freelancing he’s become accustomed to me being home a lot more.

If I was going to be really honest with you, which apparently I am, I’d admit there are some days I don’t go out at all.  There are some days I’m so busy writing I don’t ever get out of my Continue reading

What I don’t understand …

This past weekend was the Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada.  It’s known as the May Two-Four and it’s when cottage timewe celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday, which is, you guessed it, May 24.  For some reason this year the party happened a week early.  Queen Victoria, in case you don’t know,  was the current Queen’s (Elizabeth II) great, great grandmother.

But for most Canadians Queen Victoria’s birthday is the unofficial, official start of summer.  When hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of cottage owners make the trek to their small and rustic (or large and luxe) slices of heaven, wherever in Ontario they may be, and Continue reading

Come fly with me (OR NOT).

“Bang!  Bang!  BANG!  Crash!  Splat.  Ouch!  OW!”  Don’t worry.  That’s just the sound of me knocking my head against the wall.   frequent flyerGo on, ask me why.  Just trying to use up some of my frequent flier miles, is all.  HA!!  It would probably be easier for me to call the White House and ask to speak to President Obama.  And I know you feel my pain.

Not too sure anyone likes any airline’s loyalty (frequent flier) program, but I think you’d be hard pressed to find an unhappier group than Aeroplan members.  When it first started up, years ago, it belonged to Air Canada.  Then it split off and became a separate entity, although it’s still for passengers who fly Air Canada and its partner airlines.   Frankly I’ve never understood this whole Continue reading

My poor brain’s gonna explode!!!

Have you ever taken the time to add up all the flippin’ passwords you’ve had to come up with, and try to remember? Can you believe how passwordcomplicated they’ve become?  There was a time all you needed was four numbers.  Any four numbers would do.

Most people I know, including me, used the last four digits of a familiar phone number or an address or a birthday.  Something easy.  Something memorable.  And once you had one set of four numbers you could use it for everything, or at least I did.

Even back then the experts warned against it, but I did it anyway.

Over the years it’s become a real pain in the ass.  Before long four numbers weren’t enough.  Passwords had to be at least six numbers.  Then you needed a combination of numbers and Continue reading
