There she stands in all her glory. The Statue of Liberty, the universal symbol of freedom and democracy, 
welcoming all immigrants arriving from abroad.
A UNESCO world heritage sight, she has been described as a “masterpiece of the human spirit that endures as a highly potent symbol—inspiring contemplation, debate and protest—of ideals such as liberty, peace, human rights, abolition of slavery, democracy and opportunity.”
What must she think of Donald Trump?
Considering all the vile and vicious garbage that flows freely and unchecked from those pouty lips of his, and all his ugly promises of what he’ll do once elected, it’s obvious he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about what she represents.
But what about the members of the GOP who, even though they said they wouldn’t support him, have now shown the entire world that they haven’t got the backbone to stand up to him? Do they need a refresher course?
And what about the media who have covered his every move, who have broadcast his putrid message of hatred, disdain, misogyny, prejudice, racism and defamatory lies over and over and over and over and over and over again, giving him billions of dollars in free publicity, helping him reach more and more Americans; a frighteningly large number of whom, God help us all, think he’s the second coming, and may very well vote him right into the White House.
What must she be thinking of all of this?
Because one thing is certain. If he gets elected, she’ll be out of a job. There won’t be any immigrants to welcome, the Donald will see to that. And the very values America was founded upon, the very values that have made it the greatest, most powerful nation on earth, the very values that have attracted millions of foreigners in search of the American dream will cease to exist.
How has this happened?

We really just have to hope that sense will prevail.
Sure hope so but it’s not looking good so far.
It’s not, and I really don’t understand how that can be either.
Just blows my mind. He gets more disgusting and outrageous with each passing day. The TV coverage is virtually non stop. I have never seen anything like it. Even if, by some miracle, he does not get elected he has already caused so much damage and will continue to because all those vile people who love and support him will not go away.
The media is all about ratings, in other words follow the money. On the question of
the Donald’s followers we might try to understand that wether he gets in or not, they
are not going away any time soon. They’ll wait until another demagog raises his/her
ugly head again. So the real question just might be – how can they be helped to better intergrate into a new century that has left them behind and therefore, enraged
beyond reason.
That is definitely the issue — his supporters won’t go away, neither will Bernie Sanders. And I don’t think they will wait for a new demagog. I think the US better brace itself for anger and violence the likes of which they have never seen — except on television from third world countries. The anger has taken on a life of its own now and instead of channeling it for good and positive and necessary change all Trump and Sanders have done is unleash it. And keep it stoked. It is raging out of control and the thing is, even of either one of them gets elected, they’ll continue to incite rage because they believe that’s the path to change. In fact it’s the path to destruction but when you lose the ability to reason, you can’t see that. Very, very scary times we live in is all I can say.
Very scary times indeed and yet how soon we forget. We’ve been here before, think
Russia at the turn of the 20th Century and Germany in the 1930s, etc. Our selective
memory does us a great diservice.
Sad but true. It is amazing what we can convince ourselves to believe. If anyone would ever have told me I’d live to see something like this I would have laughed in their face. Who would have believed it?
