Good as new (both of us) …

If you’ve ever wondered just how attached you are to technology, I now know.  I was without a doctorcomputer all weekend.  From about 2:00 pm last Friday afternoon until 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning.  Whew!  It wasn’t easy.

Don’t panic.  The doctor’s not for me.  It was for my Mac.  It had a pretty serious boo-boo.  Thought it was a goner, for sure, to tell you the truth.   Out of the blue one day it stopped backing up to my external hard drive.  Called the tech expert who spent several hours trying to figure out what the problem
was.  After several attempts, his diagnosis was a corrupted hard drive.

In most laptops it’s not a huge problem.  The hard drive can be replaced.  Not so with a Macbook Air.  He (techie) suggested I go to the Apple Store for a Continue reading

Guess what folks …

… we’re not in Kansas anymore.  We’ve had a series of wake-up calls recently in Canada, but the same is true pretty much everywhere.  This may come as a yellow brick roadnasty, unwelcome surprise to a lot of people out there, but crime, drug and alcohol addiction and bad and even deviant behaviour is not the exclusive territory of the underprivileged and uneducated among us.

Easy and convenient as it’s always been to point fingers at them, while denying, ignoring and doing nothing about what’s going on behind closed doors right in our own backyards.  Yes, my dears, on university campuses, in corporate boardrooms nice, middle class neighbourhoods and luxurious penthouse apartments and sprawling estates.

Just look at our soon to be former mayor, Rob Ford.  There are videos of him drunk, consorting with criminals, buying crack, making offensive racial slurs and comments about women and even threatening to kill people.  He’s got three siblings — two brothers and a sister and each and every one of them has had involvement with drugs.

His brother, Doug, sold hash in the ’80s.  His brother, Randy, not only sold drugs, he was once charged in relation to a drug-related kidnapping.  His sister, Kathy, is an addict, among other things, and Rob Ford was caught yet again on video, while at her house, in her basement, smoking crack with her.  It was after that he finally ended up in rehab; and she’s been

Day 155. Slow Down

Why are we so driven? Why are we in such a hurry to get a promotion? A bigger office? The corner office? Before we even know how to do the job. Why is it, we’re no sooner back from one holiday, we’reroses already booking the next? Before we’re even over the jet lag.

Why aren’t we ever satisfied? Content, to rest a while.

Why is it, after playing a great game of golf on Saturday, we hit buckets and buckets and buckets of balls, so we can play a better game on Sunday? Without taking a minute to enjoy the round we had. Why are we so anxious to get to the top of the mountain, we don’t even notice the beautiful scenery along the way.

It reminds me of those tours. You know the ones. See 14 cities in 10 days. The minute your plane lands, you get herded into a bus, along with 40 other tourists, with name tags, baseball caps and cameras slung around their necks. You whiz by all the standard tourist attractions, with barely enough time to point and click, through the window. It’s just one, constant blur.

No time for any exploring. No time to mingle with locals. The only time you get out of the bus, is when it’s time to go to bed.
