It’s official …

Don’t know about you, but I’m really loving the fact that citizens and resistance CEOs (in ever increasing numbers) in the U.S. are standing up to Donald Trump, calling him out, defying him and fighting back. And it doesn’t look like they have any plans to give up any time soon.

I see Facebook posts everyday, where phone numbers and email addresses for members of congress are given out, with requests to contact them, voice opinions, disagree with cabinet choices, policies and the direction the country is headed. And it’s happening — a lot and often.

And I’m thrilled that Howard Schultz (Starbucks) announced, in the wake of Trump’s travel ban, that they  Continue reading

A rude awakening (kinda) …

Last week I was celebrating the return of my beloved MacBook Air, safely back home after its hard abandoneddrive transplant.  Being superstitious I’m afraid to jinx it, so let me just say, everything’s going very well.

I think I also mentioned that Jenson, my wonderful tech expert, upgraded my operating system to Yosemite as a surprise.  Very sweet of him because I would have messed it up for sure.  My bad technology karma always seems to Continue reading

Good as new (both of us) …

If you’ve ever wondered just how attached you are to technology, I now know.  I was without a doctorcomputer all weekend.  From about 2:00 pm last Friday afternoon until 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning.  Whew!  It wasn’t easy.

Don’t panic.  The doctor’s not for me.  It was for my Mac.  It had a pretty serious boo-boo.  Thought it was a goner, for sure, to tell you the truth.   Out of the blue one day it stopped backing up to my external hard drive.  Called the tech expert who spent several hours trying to figure out what the problem
was.  After several attempts, his diagnosis was a corrupted hard drive.

In most laptops it’s not a huge problem.  The hard drive can be replaced.  Not so with a Macbook Air.  He (techie) suggested I go to the Apple Store for a Continue reading

It seems I’ve undergone a metamorphosis …

… or at least turned over a new leaf.  And not a fig leaf either.  I hate to disappointment anyone but despite the drawing this adam and eveisn’t a post about men and women.  Or sex.  It’s about temptation.  Well, not really, but sort of.  Or resisting temptation.  Sort of, but not really.

A bit of background.

As long as I’ve been earning money I’ve liked gizmos and gadgets.  Well, I’ve probably always liked them.  But it’s only since I’ve been earning my own keep that I could indulge myself and buy them whenever I’ve felt like it.

To be totally honest, “liking” doesn’t really capture it.  It’s more like “I must have that!”  The very Continue reading

How do I love thee?

I’ve been having a wee bit of trouble charging my iPhone recently.  I suspected it was my power cord, but it is three years old, solove apple I sort of had to accept the possibility it was my battery.  As in, time for a new one.  Which in my case is a major pain in the ass, because my phone is my office, my life, my lifeline, not to mention my alarm clock.  My only alarm clock.  And a battery can’t be replaced instantly in the store.  The phone has to be sent away for anywhere from three to five days.

Not good.

So yes, I’ve been putting off dealing with it.  But over the weekend the matter was taken out of my hands.  Procrastinating was no longer an option.  Because no matter Continue reading

Why are we in such a hurry?

Last week I wrote about taking the time to smell the roses. Well, it wasn’t roses, exactly. More like grass and peaches. But nonetheless, it’s made me acutely speedingaware of the fact we don’t seem to do it often enough. You know, take the time. We’re too busy speeding through life.

Why are we in such a rush? Who decided we should live in fast forward? Have you noticed how quickly we’re going? Like me, are you wondering why? Like me, do you ever feel we’re going so fast we’re spinning out of control?

Wouldn’t you like to just have a minute to catch your breath and enjoy the moment??

To really savour it. To take it all in. To make the most of it.

Day 135. New Reality

I need a new power cord/charger for my iPhone.  I’ve been staring at exposed wires for weeks now.  You’d think I’d have twigged.  Nope.  It took incessant ‘dinging’ every two chewed cableseconds while I had it plugged in, ostensibly charging the battery, for me to figure out something might be amiss.  Well, that’s not quite true.

It was when I went to use the phone and it was dead.

Before I go too much further with this story, you should know the photo is NOT one I took of my cord.  Even I would look at this and understand procrastinating isn’t an option.

Most of the Apple stores in Toronto are in suburban malls.  I’m a city dweller.  I gave up my car years ago.  The good news is, there’s an Apple store in the Eaton Centre.  Right downtown.  A quick subway ride away.  The Eaton Centre is the largest mall in downtown Toronto, home to 330 stores, spread over 148,000 square metres (1,593,058.7 square feet).  Actually it’s both a shopping mall and an office complex.

Sadly, it’s also been the scene of several shooting sprees.  A la Columbine, Colorado and now, Connecticut.  One lone gunman.  All kinds of mayhem.  Innocent people killed, while they were out shopping and having fun.  For Continue reading
