One week later …

This past Sunday I decided, on the spur of the moment, to visit The Danforth, otherwise known as Greektown in Toronto. It was warm and sunny, glorious really, the kind of day that always attracts locals, visitors from throughout the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and tourists to the Danforth in droves. Not surprising with its abundance of boutiques and family-friendly restaurants and cafes — most with terraces and patios.

But of course, this wasn’t just another summer Sunday on The Danforth. One week earlier, on a beautiful summer night, this lovely, lively, friendly, family-oriented, safe, beloved neighbourhood was the scene of a horrific crime.

As seniors and twenty-somethings and students on summer break and parents with children talked and laughed and ate and sipped and licked dripping ice cream cones, shots suddenly rang out. And Continue reading

Can we sink any lower?

I cannot stand Donald Trump, I am horrified and disgusted that he got elected and I can’t wait for this nightmare to be over.

But there has to be a better way than telling the world he dropped his pants so a porn star he invited to his hotel room (while his wife recovered from childbirth and he was also bonking a Playboy Playmate) could “punish” him for spending too much time talking about himself,” by swatting his ass with a magazine that just so Continue reading

Five more senseless deaths, but Second Amendment rights are intact

Last Friday, Esteban Santiago arrived at Hollywood International Airport in Fort Lauderdalewordpress-gun on a flight from Alaska. He went to baggage claim and picked up one piece of luggage. He then went to the men’s room, removed the handgun that was in a case inside the bag, loaded it and came out shooting.

Five people were killed, almost 40 were injured and hundreds were traumatized.

The gun was obtained legally and it was declared — which means that the proper procedures for Continue reading

At a loss for words

It’s too much.silence

All the hatred, all the violence, all the death, all the destruction.

I can’t believe it’s become a part of our daily lives.

I can’t believe there are those who still refuse to
acknowledge there’s a problem.

I can’t believe there are those who think a minute of Continue reading

This isn’t gonna win me any popularity contests …

… because I know it’s not really any of my business, me being a Canadian and all, but I’m just too sad, and too shocked, to keep it to statue of libertymyself.  What in the world is going on?  This isn’t the America I grew up loving.  This isn’t the America I grew up envying.  This isn’t the America I wished Canada would be more like.  This isn’t the America where I wished I could live.

What the bloody hell!

Before ya’all get all up in arms (trust me, no pun intended), I know there are plenty of good guys in the U.S.  I truly believe there are more good guys than bad guys.  But I’ve gotta tell you, from where I’m sitting it looks like the bad guys are winning.

You elected a black President.  Twice.  Once by an absolute landslide.  But from the instant that man moved into the White House, probably before his personal belongings were even unpacked, Continue reading

Remind me NEVER to go to Copenhagen …

I don’t know if you saw the news on the weekend.  I was so stunned, so disgusted, so appalled I could barely breathe.  I still cannot believe it actually copenhagenhappened.

Officials at a zoo in Copenhagen killed a healthy giraffe, cut it up and fed it to the lions.  As if this wasn’t heinous enough, the macabre ‘event’ was open to the public.  And the public came.  With children.  People actually showed up to witness a helpless animal being slaughtered unnecessarily.  And then they watched while the barely dead animal was butchered and turned into lunch for a Continue reading
