The right to bear barbs …

I have a new hobby. Actually, maybe it’s less of a hobby and more like therapy. I’ve taken to Twitter. Well, that’s not it, exactly. I’ve been tweeting for ages. I’m now using Twitter to get rid of my aggression and frustration.

For the last few weeks I’ve regularly blasted 45, his daughter-wife, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz. I can’t tell you how good it felt to tell Ivanka to do everyone a favour and go back to stealing shoe designs; and to call Continue reading

Gathering steam …

To say I had the week from hell last week would be an understatement. I was all set to share my tales of woe and then thought, after what the students, parents and teachers went through recently in Parkland, Florida, who gives a toss.

My problems, regardless of how big or small I perceived them to be, are inconsequential by comparison. No one died, no one was slaughtered for no reason. It’s important
to put things into perspective.

I continue to be amazed, impressed and in awe of those Continue reading

This is about manners, not politics …

We’ve been losing our civility for years. Kids, and I mean seven and eight year olds, talk back to their rude behaviourparents. They’re rude to teachers. You don’t hear “please” or “thank you” coming out of anyone’s mouth very often, regardless of age. We’re dismissive of other people and other points of view. We say, and do, mean things.

We shout. Ignore. Sneer. Swear. Jab. Interrupt. Huff off.

We stopped ‘dressing for the occasion’ a long time ago. When I was a child and even in my teens and 20’s no one would ever have thought of going to a concert hall, opera house or even dinner in a ‘nice’ restaurant in Continue reading

In praise of older women (and men) …

I’ve got aging on my mind right now.

There’s a birthday in my not too distant future. And everywhere you turn somebody’s bringing it up (age, not my birthday.) The presidential race seems to have become about Marco aging2Rubio being too young, Bernie Sanders being the oldest candidate ever and how, to all the experts’ surprise, Hillary Clinton’s not connecting with young women.

One of this year’s Screen Actors Guild Award nominees is nine years old. Had he also been nominated for an Oscar he Continue reading

A classic tale of good versus evil …

Are you familiar with the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?  It was written by Robert Louis Stephensonjekyll and hyde in 1886.  Essentially it’s about the two personalities that live within Dr. Jekyll — one being good, the other evil.

Could have been written about Donald Trump.

I met him once, you know.  It was a very long time ago.  Not long after he married his first wife, Ivanna.  She was a model, one of Montreal’s most sought after. I was working in the fashion industry at the time, for the designer, Leo Chevalier.  She was one of our favourites and we booked her constantly.

What I remember vividly is how, after she got married and moved to New York, she never abandoned all the models she’d Continue reading
