Happy now?

Do you ever watch Super Soul Sunday? It’s one of Oprah’s and can be found on the OWN Network. On Sunday’s obviously. Here, in Toronto, where I live, it happiness2airs at 11 a.m. I have no idea what time it’s on anywhere else.

All I can say is, one of my favourite things to do on Sunday mornings used to be reading The New York Times and meeting friends for brunch. Since I ‘discovered’ this show about a year ago (although it’s been on for about 3 years, I believe), everything waits until after it’s over at noon.

Each week Oprah sits down with another “top thinker, author, visionary or spiritual leader and they talk

What’s it take to get an “A”?

Interesting question posed on the WordPress Daily Prompt last weekend:  “What would it take for you to consider yourself a successful blogger?  Is that gold starssomething you strive for?”

I guess, until you answer the second part of the question, there’s no point in answering the first.  So.  When you decided to blog, did you have a goal?  An objective?  A desired outcome?  Do you want your blog to provide you with some income at some point?

Here’s what I wanted; and still want, for that matter.  And, also, what I’m not expecting:

Right off the top I never, not even for a moment, thought of my blog as a way to earn money.  At least not directly, through ads.   If, on the other hand, a client, or even a prospective client, was to read my blog and like my writing enough to give me an assignment, I’d be delighted.  If my blog opens a door to my writing articles for either on-or-offline publications, it would be amazing.

That would certainly result in a gold star.

It’s not the only reason I began blogging, though. Continue reading

Day 74. New Day

Yep, there’s no denying it.  My morning yesterday was a pisser.  But, as you know if you follow me, I got past it.  Wrote and posted a new blog. And then got on with my day.  Did some client work.  Got some personal chores done.  By about three in the afternoon, I’d almost forgotten about you know what.

And that’s when it happened.  My iPhone stopped working.  Just like that.  It was fine, one minute; and unusable the next.  Screen went black.  On/off switch didn’t work.  No response, no matter which button I touched.  Considering the start to my day, I had to laugh.  I was about to go to the Apple Store when I realized that my telephone service provider has a shop, right around the corner from where I was.

The sales guy couldn’t have been nicer.  He plugged it into something (no, my battery did not need charging, I’m not that much of a loser).  Hmmm’d a bit, while I held my breath.   Continue reading

Day 60. A Milestone

It’s been two months, since I first had the crazy idea of attempting to write something new, every day, for a year.  Sixty days.  Sixty stories.  Sixty different topics.  Six hundred and twenty-one tags.  Forty-four thousand, seven hundred nineteen words.

And sixty grande Pike’s to keep me going.

Damn!  That’s half a novel’s worth of work.  That’s one mother load of a blog.  And I’m not even close to being done.  Done in, occasionally.  But not done.  I’ve written on more subjects I could ever have imagined, from aging to atoning.  From beauty to books.  The Caribbean to cycles.  Distractions.  Entertainment.  And fantasies.

On googling.  Health and history.  From ignorance to intentions.  Joy and love.  From mischief to  music and naturopathy.  Politics and prejudice.  Refining to rituals.   Continue reading

Day 54. Repeating Cycles

At the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), I saw a movie that was so visually stunning it literally took my breath away.  As I sat there, totally mesmerized, I had three thoughts:  One, I didn’t want the movie to ever end.  Two, I was so lucky to be seeing it, because I was sure it would never make it into a mainstream theatre.  Three, if I could have, I would have stayed right there, and watched it all over again.

For that matter, if I’d been told, right there and then, that I couldn’t see any of the other movies I had tickets for, I would have gone home more than happy.  That’s how sated I was.

Well it’s been a little over a year since that incredible evening and yesterday, in the Toronto Globe & Mail Arts Section, I read that Samsara will be playing in Toronto, beginning next Friday, October 5.

If you’re looking for me, that’s where I’ll be.  Maybe more than once, too.

Before I say another word about the film, here’s what Wikipedia says about what its name, Continue reading
