I hesitate to say this out loud, but …

… increasingly, when it comes to Toronto I’ve got a case of the blahs. I’m sorry, I know a lot of you are fans and staunch supporters — which I certainly have been — but I’ve got to be honest.

While I do believe that Toronto has tons of potential I also feel that too much of it is still untapped. And yeah, it frustrates and disappoints me.

I moved here from Montreal 32 years ago (wow, time sure does fly). As North American cities go, Continue reading

Well, they say it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind …

If I didn’t know better I’d say someone stole my brain while I was sleeping. Hell, who knows. Maybe it did happen. Something’s up, that’s for sure. Has been heartfor a while, only I’ve just really become aware of it.

Kinda crept up on me, slowly. And it’s confusing the hell out of me, if you want to know.

When I look in the mirror it looks like me, but I don’t know, in some respects it sure doesn’t feel like me. Here’s the thing:

For as far back as I can remember myself — and trust me — it’s far, far, far back — I’ve been a city girl. I didn’t even know what suburbs were and I didn’t like ’em. Believe it or not, I was at a school play.

My friend Marilyn has two little grand nephews who have to be the cutest kids you’ll ever meet. And that’s saying something, because when the maternal genes were being handed out, I must have been wearing a “Do Not Disturb” sign. “No Trespassing”. “Beware Of Dog”. “Stay Off The Grass”.

Don’t get me wrong. I like kids. I just never wanted any of my own. And, usually, after an hour with most of them, I’m ready to get back to the peace and quiet of my home.

Sorry. I’m just being honest. “Chacun son gout“, as they say. “Each to his own“, for the anglophones among you.

But these two kids. A different story, entirely. Whenever we spend time with them, I always say I’m taking them home with me. And I mean it. They are that adorable.

‘G’ is the eldest. He’s 7 and has always been a ham. Great personality. Not shy. And aside from his red hair
